Powerful Weight Loss Tip – Vitamin D

In this post, we’re going to discuss why indirectly, Vitamin D for weight loss is so important.

Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium (one of bone’s main building blocks) from food and supplements. People who get too little vitamin D may develop soft, thin, and brittle bones, a condition known as rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. Vitamin D is important to the body in many other ways as well.

Its interesting to note that people who are obese are at a greater risk of developing Vitamin D deficiency!

Here are 8 signs and symptoms of vitamin D deficiency.

  • Getting Sick or Infected Often.
  • Fatigue and Tiredness. Feeling tired can have many causes, and vitamin D deficiency may be one of them.
  • Bone and Back Pain.
  • Depression.
  • Impaired Wound Healing.
  • Bone Loss.
  • Hair Loss.
  • Muscle Pain.

So we can see that indirectly, Vitamin D for weight loss is v important. If someone has low Vitamin D levels and is getting sick & infected often, is tired & fatigued all the time, has bone, muscle & back pain and/or depressed, its going to v challenging for them to be active and exercise. Being thereby more sedentary, it will become v difficult for them to be able to lose weight effectively.

So what can one do to increase their Vitamin D levels, esp in Winter where we have much lower levels of sunlight. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is necessary for the production of vitamin D in the skin and is the best natural source of vitamin D.

Otherwise, we can take Vitamin D & Calcium supplements.

Foods that provide vitamin D include:

  • Fatty fish, like tuna, mackerel, and salmon.
  • Foods fortified with vitamin D, like some dairy products, orange juice, soy milk, and cereals.
  • Beef liver.
  • Cheese.
  • Egg yolks.

If you think you may be at risk of vitamin D deficiency, talk to your GP for advice. Your GP may recommend taking a vitamin D supplement. 

So with today being the first day of winter, where low Vitamin D levels become common place due to the low sunlight levels, let’s do what we can to maintain healthy levels of Vitamin D and thereby, keep our health & vitality at optimal levels – making our weight loss journey as easy & enjoyable as possible!
