In this 6th post in this series, we’re going to continue discussing Flexibility when it comes to goal achievement knowing that BEHIND EVERY BEHAVIOUR IS A POSITIVE INTENTION & how this relates to flexibility for weight loss!
What does this NLP principle mean? Let me use 2 examples from one of ideal weight my clients this week.
Example 1: When I get bored, I eat chips. In fact, I find it v difficult to walk past some chips without eating them!
So what does our NLP have to say about this – what is the positive intention? Here, it is to relieve the boredom & do something fun & enjoyable! There must be hundreds of ways of achieving this desire, however the client is STUCK on one option only – that being the chips!
Why not:
- Go for a walk,
- Listen to some music,
- Dance, roller blade, jog etc
- Watch an inspiring or funny movie
- Ring up a close friend,
- Learn something new off Youtube
- etc etc
So we can see here that the intention is fine – but the way the client has chosen to satisfy this intention is faulty. Of all the choices possible, the client has chosen one that will no longer serve her moving re her health & well being goals. So why couldn’t she apply some will power to choose a healthier option that still satisfies the intention, but which is much appropriate. Within a couple of weeks of repeating this new option, it will become a habit and automatic, with v little effort being require thereafter to do it!
Example 2: When i want to eat something sweet, I eat yoyo chocolate bars.
Exactly the same principle applies here. The intention is to eat something sweet. There are a million sweet foods one could eat to satisfy this craving. Here are but a few examples:
- fruit,
- fruit juice,
- yoghurt,
- dried fruit, like raisins or currants,
- sorbet,
- Honey,
- etc etc
Again there are many, many options which serve the client better moving forward with improving her overall health & vitality & thereby, moving her closer towards her ideal weight.
So my challenge for you for this week is to think of the various ways that you are currently satisfying your positive intentions and determine how many other options are available to you. Of these, which ones would serve you better moving forward to help improve your health, well being & weight. This process inevitably involves being flexible in your choices each day.
As stated in our previous posts in this series, the importance of flexibility for weight loss is paramount. My aim with these posts is to help you introduce more & more flexibility & responsibility into your thinking and your life & see how this has a huge impact on your progress towards achieving your goals – esp your ideal weight!
To your optimum health, well being & ideal weight!
