In this 5th post in this series, we’re going to continue discussing Flexibility when it comes to goal achievement using CAUSE & EFFECT & how this relates to flexibility for weight loss!
What does the NLP concept of CAUSE & EFFECT mean? It would have to be one of the most powerful principles from NLP!
When we have a challenge or problem in our lives, we can respond to this by either (a) blaming others for them – being at EFFECT, or (b) taking responsibility for them – being at CAUSE – I was in some way responsible for this problem – by what I said, what I didn’t say OR by what you did or didn’t do.
It is by far easier to blame others for all our problems. For example, Because I have a stressful job – I need to drink when I get home to relax, as well as have my favourite chocolates!
The problem with this statement is that we have now relinquished all our power & control to the external cause – in this simple example, the job! So like a puppet on a string, whenever the job becomes stressful, I have to drink alcohol & eat chocolates.
How could we change this situation by being at CAUSE?
Here are some questions we would be asking if at CAUSE with this situation and taking responsibility:
- What makes my job so stressful? Do I need more training to help me cope better? Can I chunk down any stressful over whelming task down into smaller easier fun sub tasks?
- How can I better deal with this stress? Can I learn other powerful techniques to help me stay calmer throughout the day, eg yoga, meditation, deep relaxation hypnosis recordings etc?
- What else could I do when I get home to relax that will also help me reach my ideal weight. Could I (a) go for a walk with my kids, dog or partner (b) meditate (c) exercise (d) play sports, (e) listen to calming music, (f) watch an inspiring relaxing, funny & entertaining movie etc etc?
- Do I really need this job? Why? Can I find a better job that is more fulfilling, fun & rewarding & leaves me at the end of the day feeling awesome & refreshed?
When we take responsibility and stay at CAUSE, we can then do something about the problem & start to find solutions to our challenges – ways to better respond, which are much more empowering and fulfilling.
So my challenge for you for this week is when you face a challenge or problem, take responsibility for it & retain full power & control of the situation & in life! Look for solutions & better ways of responding. You’ll be so glad you did!
As stated in our previous posts in this series, the importance of flexibility for weight loss is paramount. My aim with these posts is to help you introduce more & more flexibility & responsibility into your thinking and your life & see how this has a huge impact on your progress towards achieving your goals – esp your ideal weight!
To your optimum health, well being & ideal weight!
