In this series of posts, we’re going to discuss the effectiveness of hypnosis for weight loss.

So what is hypnotic trance & how do we experience it?

The amazing thing is that we all go into & out of hypnotic trance up to 120 days already, without even realising it.

For example, do you ever:

  • Day Dream?
  • Wake up/Go to sleep in a bit of daze?
  • Get engrossed in reading a book or watching a movie & time just flies past?
  • Driving to a destination without remembering how you got there?

These are all examples of hypnotic trance that we all experience daily!

In fact, whenever you doing some activity during the day on ‘auto pilot’, where you are doing the task automatically, without really focusing on it, then you’re in hypnotic trance.

Therefore, everyone can be hypnotised, as they already have been many, many times in their lives without realising it.

In a therapy session, anyone can be hypnotised as long as (a) they want to be, (b) they feel comfortable with the therapist, and (c) they are keen to get the result being sought for – eg. Quit smoking, weight loss etc.

Conversely, if the client doesn’t want to lose weight, nothing the therapist does will have any impact on the person, resulting in little or no progress being made towards reaching them their ideal weight.

So the powerful take away from today’s post is that hypnosis is a natural state that we all use everyday. These means that everyone can be hypnotised as long as a couple of simple conditions are met.

In our next post, we will discuss the functions of both the conscious & unconscious minds & the roles they play in helping us change undesirable patterns of behaviour that no longer serve us. This will help continue to clarify the importance of hypnosis for weight loss.
