In this post, we’re going to study the importance of self discipline for weight loss. You see whenever we start on the journey of achieving a goal, for example, weight loss, there is one thing guaranteed to happen! Challenges, problems & obstacles! So the question we want to address in the next series of posts is how can we power through these challenges, problems & obstacles, quickly & easily, rather than allowing them to stop us dead in our tracks!
Developing 2 types of courage will give us the tools to overcome any obstacle that occurs during our goal achievement journey. The first one is to build our own self discipline.
Self Discipline is defined as: “You are going to do what needs to be done, when it needs to done, whether you like it or not!”
This one human trait, once developed, will allow us to achieve any goal we set ourselves, no matter what challenges we experience along the way.
During World War 2, Winston Churchill gave a famous speech for which he received his usual standing ovation. In it, he just simply said 3 words over & over again.
NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER GIVE UP!
When we look at a baby learning to walk, what do we notice. It stumbles & falls over & over again. It continues trying to walk until finally, one day it succeeds!
This illustrates another 3 words that we should use when it relates to Self Discipline – I WILL UNTIL…..
You see for the baby, it is not a question of IF, its just really a question of WHEN. If we as adults had half the tenacity of our babies, we would achieve amazing outcomes in our lives!
In history, there are many examples of famous people that overcome huge adversities to become successful.
Take Abraham Lincoln for example. At age 24, he lost his job. His sweat heart died a couple of years later. At 36, he had a mental breakdown. For another 14 years after that, he kept failing.
In 1860, at age 51, however, he became the President of the United States.
Was this luck? His age? Or just sheer determination, self discipline & persistence that got him there?
Jim Rohn, the famous US motivational speaker, openly admits that his first few talks were so bad, that people simply walked out. Churchill had a lisp, but this did not stop him from becoming one of the best orators of his time.
Finally, Michelangelo states the following when asked about his genius of the Renaissance: “If only people knew how much I worked to get my mastery, they wouldn’t think it was so wonderful!“
So for this week, let the phrase I WILL UNTIL & NEVER GIVE UP become part of your DNA. As you strengthen your self discipline muscle each day, you will be astounded at how much easier it will become to achieve your goal, esp re weight loss. This will in turn on only serve to further illustrate the importance of self discipline for weight loss.
In our next post, we’ll discuss the 2nd type of courage we need to develop to make our goal achievement journey quick & easy!
To your optimum health, well being & ideal weight!
